There are many cons that could come from this new layout and how it could impact the entire franchise. Doing so has kept player options open and garnered even more significant benefits to bring Street Fighter to more gamers.

In addition, shoulder buttons have more agency, and throws, parries, and assists are now mapped out to the remaining buttons. Now, two of the face buttons have been switched so that one is for special moves while the other is for heavy attacks. The new controls, however, are a way for players to have their cake and eat it, too by allowing certain controls to have designated buttons. For many players, the heat of battle, as well as evading, made it hard for players to properly navigate the controls without instinctively button mashing. Combos would also be implemented when a player would use directional combinations as well as the face buttons, which was where the difficulty came in. However, certain combinations would lead to throws, parries, and stronger attacks.

The face buttons were for the light and medium attacks, while the shoulder buttons were tied to the heavier attacks. In past Street Fighter games, console controls had deceptively simple button layouts.
